Understanding Ingredient Labels (Including “Meat Derivatives”)
When choosing proper nutrition for your dog, it’s important to understand what ingredient labels actually mean. Terms like “meat derivatives” can sometimes raise eyebrows, but context matters.
At Emperor, “meat derivatives” refers specifically to hydrolyzed chicken liver — which we use for both palatability and digestibility. Hydrolyzed simply means the protein has been broken down into smaller components, making it easier for sensitive dogs to tolerate and digest. It also naturally enhances flavour, which is why even fussy eaters tend to love Emperor.
We do not use vague, low-quality meat by-products. Our inclusion of hydrolyzed chicken liver serves a clear purpose:
-
It improves taste naturally (without artificial flavour enhancers).
-
It supports easier digestion for sensitive stomachs.
-
It provides valuable nutrients from a high-quality protein source.
So when you see “meat derivatives” on our label, know that it is there because of a functional, beneficial ingredient — not because of fillers or shortcuts.
Transparency matters to us. If it’s in the bag, there’s a reason for it.
